Airline to invest in biofuel refinery in the US

A subsidiary of United Airlines announced that it has made a strategic investment in a company that transforms recycled organic materials into a biofuel, which will enable a refinery in the United States. Next Renewable Fuels will develop the venture which, at full capacity, will be able to produce up to 50,000 barrels per day of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable diesel, and other renewable fuels. United Airlines Ventures (UAV) may invest up to USD 37.5 M (BRL 204.8 M), provided that the company meets certain targets. “Right now, one of the biggest barriers to increasing supply and reducing costs with sustainable fuel is that we do not have the infrastructure to transport it efficiently. But Next’s strategic location and assets will solve this problem, while also providing a model for the construction of future facilities”, according to UAV President Michael Leskinen. This is the fifth investment the United subsidiary will make in the SAF and its first direct investment in a biorefinery. Its production is expected to start in 2026. – https://aeromagazine.uol.com.br/artigo/companhia-aerea-vai-investir-em-refinaria-de-biocombustiveis.html
