Global demand for flights is close to 2019 levels
Global demand for air travel, measured by revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), increased by 31% in June 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, according to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). In the first six months of the year, the demand (RPK) for flights grew 47.2%, in the annual comparison. Global consolidated passenger traffic reached 94.2% of 2019 levels, the year before the health crisis. In June, domestic operations recorded growth of 27.2% compared to a year earlier, surpassing by 5.1% the results of four years ago. In the first half, the increase was 33.3% in the annual comparison. In the international segment, the number of passengers (RPK) increased by 33.7% in June, when compared to the same period a year earlier, with all markets showing strong growth.
