High demand for cargo and passengers continued in July
Passenger traffic in the world has reached 95.6% of pre-pandemic levels (2019). In the year x year comparison, there was an increase of 26.2%. The month is within the peak summer season in the northern hemisphere and school holidays in Brazil. Latin American airlines showed a 25.3% increase in traffic in July 2023 compared to the same month in 2022. July capacity grew 21.2% and the load factor rose 2.9 percentage points, reaching 89.1%. Demand for cargo and passengers remained high in July, according to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). According to the association, the demand for air cargo in July was only 0.8% below the levels of the previous year, which represents an improvement in relation to the performance of the last months. The entity classifies the fact as particularly significant, considering the declines in global trade volumes and growing concerns about China’s economy. In Latin America, carriers recorded an increase of 0.4% in cargo volumes in July this year, compared to July 2022. This result was a drop in performance compared to the previous month (2.2%).
