EU arranges passport to clear travel for vaccinees

The governments of the European Union (EU) have reached an agreement on technical standards for issuing so-called vaccination passports. The decision represented a step forward in efforts to boost travel to the bloc and within the bloc in time for the summer season in the northern hemisphere (from June to September). Some European countries, with greater dependence on the tourism sector, are already putting forward some measures to facilitate the flow of travelers. Greece, for example, plans to lift quarantine restrictions starting next week for travelers from the EU and five other countries that have been vaccinated or tested negative for covid-19, a senior government official said yesterday. Last month, Athens lifted the weeklong quarantine rule for Israeli travelers who were vaccinated and tested negative. Envoys meeting in Brussels agreed to support a preliminary legal text that outlines the specific aspects for the creation of “digital green attestations”, according to an EU statement released yesterday. The documents will prove that its carriers have been vaccinated against covid-19, tested negative for the disease, or have recently recovered, and are considered immune to it. Negotiations between the governments and the European Parliament are scheduled for the period immediately following the formalization, by the Parliament, of its position, at the end of this month, according to the statement, which confirms previous news released by Bloomberg. The agreement may allow resumption of travel without inconvenience, without quarantine requirements, for holders of the vaccine passport until June. Airlines and industry groups have already launched applications capable of incorporating information about testing and vaccination status. – https://valor.globo.com/mundo/noticia/2021/04/15/ue-acerta-passaporte-para-liberar-viagem-a-vacinados.ghtml
