LATAM will eliminate the use of plastic on board flights

Latam Airlines announced that it will eliminate 100% of single-use plastics used on all its flights by 2023. Initiatives such as the incorporation of more sustainable items and programs for recycling and reuse of items will be adopted. Latam stated that gradual changes are being implemented inside the aircraft. Since the beginning of this month, all international flights will have reusable bags to store Premium Business class items and new travel kits that incorporate more sustainable elements, such as bamboo brushes and kraft paper packaging. Important changes will be announced in the coming weeks in economy class, regarding the materials of all service items (cups, cutlery, plates), which will be replaced by reusable and/or recyclable materials. According to Latam, the initiative will allow the elimination of more than 1,000 tons of single-use plastics, the equivalent of 36,000 500ml plastic bottles, in the short term. At Latam Cargo, the group’s logistics division, five pilot projects are being implemented with the expectation of reducing the use of plastic in cargo operations by more than 60%. Highlight for the initiative that aims to replace the plastic that wraps the load with reusable blankets or waterproof covers. Latam aims to be zero waste to landfills by 2027, offset 50% of domestic emissions by 2030, and be carbon neutral by 2050. All this in line with the industry’s requirements. – https://aeromagazine.uol.com.br/artigo/latam-vai-eliminar-o-uso-de-plastico-a-bordo-dos-voos.html
