In a challenge in Brazil, KLM airline hits a goal of 150,000 km and will plant 6,000 trees
The Dutch airline KLM informs that the goal established in the challenge it proposed between August 4th and 28th to people from all over Brazil has been reached, with 150 thousand kilometers covered by participants on their bicycles in the KLM Pedale por Árvores Challenge (bike ride for trees, in Portuguese). The initiative over the last month reinforced the airline’s commitment to sustainability, and will be completed in November with the planting of six thousand trees in the Amazon, in partnership with the startup Meu Pé de Árvore. The planting area, equivalent to three football fields, will include three spaces of permanent preservation with wetland conditions, which include two water springs. The trees will be planted in November to coincide with the rainy season in the Amazon region. All details are available on an official challenge page. To ensure the objective of the challenge, KLM also had a partnership with the Km Solidário app. The initiative foresaw that every 25 kilometers cycled by participants in the challenge would be converted by the airline into planting a tree. To contribute, interested parties should select the KLM Pedale by Trees Challenge in the app, start pedaling, and at the end of the activity, synchronize their kilometers, without any financial cost. The KLM Bike House, in turn, was the main symbol of this challenge. Located on Ciclovia Rio Pinheiros (a bike lane), in Sao Paulo, the space welcomed the community of the capital and region, who had the chance to follow the kilometers cycled in the challenge on a digital scoreboard and learn more about KLM’s commitments to the Fly Responsibly program. Visitors to the KLM Bike House were also able to participate in a contest in which three tickets to Amsterdam will be drawn. “With the contribution of people from all over Brazil, who dedicated time and effort to our challenge, KLM will be able to make a very important social and environmental contribution. We are very proud of what we have accomplished and the result achieved, as we are bringing awareness of this topic to the forefront, as we continue with our environmental transformation as an airline”, highlighted Steven van Wijk, Commercial Director of the Air France-KLM Group at South America. – Em desafio no Brasil, aérea KLM bate meta de 150 mil km e vai plantar 6 mil árvores (aeroin.net)
