Porto and Lisbon airports are gaining a biometric solution for passenger boarding
ANA Aeroportos de Portugal (Airports of Portugal), a part of the VINCI Airports global network, informs that it is implementing a new technological solution at Portuguese airports. The Biometric Experience by VINCI Airports is an innovation project, supported by the European Union (EU), through the NextGenerationEU program, which focuses on the application of technology to improve the quality of service and digital transformation at airports. The launch of this project took place at the beginning of the year at Lisbon and Porto airports. In the second half of 2024, the technological solution will be available in Faro, Madeira, and Ponta Delgada. The first tests are being started with passengers from the airline TAP Air Portugal on the route to departures from Lisbon and Porto airports, on flights previously selected by the company, in the Schengen area – Europe. In a second phase, other airlines will join and more destinations, including extra-European flights. Passengers who are included in the test flights and who are eligible (only passengers of legal age can use this solution with biometric data collection) can participate by previously registering on their mobile device using the “Biometric Experience” application, available on IOS and Android. Alternatively, they can register at the airport, at a kiosk available for this purpose, with or without assistance, located at the check-in entrance, in the public area of Lisbon and Porto departures, or next to the boarding gates, for passengers who are transferring between flights. Registration and use are simple: in the app or at the kiosk, simply photograph/scan your boarding pass, electronic passport or Portuguese nationality card and take a “selfie”, accepting the terms and conditions. With this, the passenger will have a smoother and faster boarding experience, by reading their facial biometric data, without having to present their boarding pass again.
