LATAM reaches 96% elimination of single-use plastics on flights, airports, and offices

The LATAM Group informs that it ended 2023 with significant progress in eliminating single-use plastics in all its operations, achieving a reduction of more than 1,700 tons. The volume corresponds to around 96% of the scope defined by the LATAM Group as single-use plastic, the equivalent of 266 million plastic bags. The remaining 4% corresponds to items that could not be replaced or eliminated for legal, safety, health, or operational reasons, or because there were no replacement options available on the market. Given the result, Johanna Cabrera, LATAM Group Sustainability Manager, states, “We are proud to be able to end 2023 with significant progress in eliminating single-use plastics in all operations, which was a great challenge for the group. It was a process of approximately three years, which involved transversally different areas, from the design of the travel experience to the operational lines, replacing disposable plastics with rotating, bio-based and/or biodegradable materials. We know there is still a lot of room for improvement and we will continue to work hard on that this year.” According to the company, these actions include relevant changes. – LATAM chega a 96% de eliminação de plásticos de uso único em voos, aeroportos e escritórios (aeroin.net)
