After 77 years, Brazil and the United Kingdom sign a new bilateral aviation agreement

In a historic milestone for relations between the United Kingdom and Brazil, a new Aviation Services Agreement was formally signed this Wednesday (10), by the British Ambassador to Brazil, Stephanie Al-Qaq. The pioneering agreement will replace the previous one, dated October 1946, and affirms the countries’ mutual commitment to promoting safety and efficiency in the aviation sector, further developing trade and tourism between the countries: “I am very happy to sign today the first UK-Brazil Air Services Agreement since 1946. Air connectivity is important for both Brazil and the UK. And this agreement expands airlines’ rights to fly between our two countries. It also helps ensure flights are safer and more sustainable. I hope to see more Brazilians in the UK – and Brits in Brazil – as a result”, said Ambassador Al-Qaq. According to VisitBritain, the official body of the British Government responsible for promoting Great Britain as a tourist destination around the world, the forecast for 2024 is an overall growth of 5% compared to the previous year, pointing to the continued recovery of the post-pandemic tourism in the country. Priscila Moraes, Director of VisitBritain in Brazil, adds, “Brazilians’ demand for the United Kingdom as a travel destination has grown at a rapid pace. During the year 2023, every quarter, we see Brazilians breaking historical records in number of visits and volume of spending – in the first quarter, for example, there were 93 thousand Brazilians on British soil with an expenditure of BRL 670M – the highest record for the period, doubling the previous year’s numbers.” In addition to facilitating trade and tourism, the agreement also provides additional traffic rights for cargo services. These rights will allow British and Brazilian cargo airlines to operate to and from third countries. With the new agreement in force and aligned agendas, the United Kingdom and Brazil are prepared to further boost cooperation in various areas of aviation, promoting economic development and connectivity between the two countries. – https://aeroin.net/apos-77-anos-brasil-e-reino-unido-assinam-novo-acordo-bilateral-na-aviacao/
