Vibra starts distributing sustainable aviation fuel in Brazil
Vibra Energia announced the availability of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Brazil, with the import of biofuel to the base located at Tom Jobim International Airport (GIG), in Rio de Janeiro. SAF, produced from used cooking oil (UCO), is one of the lowest carbon intensity sources, contributing to a reduction of up to 80% in greenhouse gas emissions, when compared to conventional aviation fuel. The base at Tom Jobim airport recently received ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) certification, which guarantees tracking of the sustainability of the SAF supply chain, from raw materials to distribution. This process is carried out by BR Aviation, the Vibra unit responsible for supplying aircraft. With this initiative, Vibra becomes the first company to import SAF on a commercial scale to Brazil and make it available for sale. “Being the first company to bring SAF on a commercial scale to Brazil and making this product available to our customers in the national market fills us with pride and reinforces our commitment to decarbonization,” said Marcelo Bragança, executive vice president of operations at Vibra. The commercialization of SAF aims to meet the growing demand for sustainable solutions in the aviation sector, with the company in advanced conversations with commercial and executive airlines. SAF will be blended with conventional aviation fuel at an initial ratio of 10% SAF and 90% fossil fuel. The forecast is that, in the future, the percentage of SAF can be increased up to 50%, in accordance with international standards. The SAF import and distribution process lasted around 10 months, with the sending of 23 isotanks containing 550 thousand liters of SAF from the port of Antwerp, Belgium, to Rio de Janeiro, marking the beginning of commercialization. This operation was made possible after the first Book & Claim in Latin America, carried out in partnership with Gol, in June 2024. The company is prepared to expand the SAF offer, using its infrastructure in more than 90 Brazilian airports and its expertise to deliver safe and competitive solutions. Furthermore, ISCC certification strengthens Vibra’s reputation as a leader in sustainable solutions, allowing it to operate in new markets. – https://aeromagazine.uol.com.br/artigo/vibra-passa-a-distribuir-combustivel-de-aviacao-sustentavel-no-brasil.html
