Delta announces partnership with developer of a new type of sustainable jet fuel
Delta and DG Fuels, LLC are jointly taking an important step towards expanding the availability of sustainable fuel through a new low-emissions SAF, which is critical to achieving a more sustainable future for aviation. Under this agreement, the low-emissions fuel company plans to establish a new SAF supply stream that could deliver Delta 385 million gallons of unblended sustainable jet fuel, helping to expand the availability of SAF in the underserved market for that product. “Achieving a sustainable future for travel will require us all to work together across all industries and will encourage innovations like DG Fuel’s new low-emissions SAF option”, said Delta’s Executive Director of Sustainability Pam Fletcher. “SAF is essential to the more sustainable future of our industry, and new flows in the supply chain will help ensure that sustainable fuel becomes more available and affordable.” Expected to begin delivery by the end of 2027, DG Fuels plans to make 55 million gallons of SAF available annually for seven years. The SAF will likely use waste wood, corn husk, and cotton ginning waste as a feedstock, and is expected to reduce life cycle greenhouse gas emissions by between 75% and 85% compared to aviation industry fuel, which aligns with Delta’s goal as a founding member of the First Movers Coalition. The agreement also propels Delta toward its recently validated Science Based Targets goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from Scope 1 and 3 jet fuel by 45% in tonne-kilometer revenue by 2035, starting base year 2019. The Science Based Targets initiative is a coalition that sets and promotes emission reduction targets that climate scientists predict are needed to keep global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius. Today, the SAF is among the most impactful solutions on the market to reduce aviation carbon emissions, but availability remains limited: the current existing supply would only serve a fleet the size of Delta for a single day. The new agreement reflects Delta’s dedication to driving sustainable fuel growth as the company works to reduce aviation carbon emissions over the long term. More information on Delta’s sustainability initiatives is available in the company’s 2021 Environmental, Social, and Governance Report. – https://www.aeroflap.com.br/delta-anuncia-parceria-com-desenvolvedora-de-um-novo-tipo-de-combustivel-de-aviacao-sustentavel/
