IATA has just announced that it is in the final stages of developing the IATA Travel Pass, a digital health pass that will support the safe reopening of borders. Some governments are beginning to use the tests as a means of limiting the risks of importing covid-19 by reopening their borders to travelers without quarantine measures. In view of this, the association’s document will aim to manage and verify the secure flow of necessary test or vaccine information between governments, airlines, laboratories, and travelers. The organization is requesting systematic testing for the new coronavirus for all international passengers, and the information flow infrastructure needed to enable this should support:
– Governments with means to verify the authenticity of the tests and the identity of those who present the exam certificates;
– Airlines with the ability to provide their passengers with accurate information about the test requirements and verify that the passenger meets the requirements for the trip;
– Laboratories with means for issuing digital certificates to passengers that will be recognized by governments;
– Travelers with accurate information about testing requirements, where they can be tested or vaccinated and the means to safely transmit test information to airlines and border authorities.
