Decarbonization – Embraer will partner to develop sustainable fuel

Embraer and Pratt & Whitney signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate in the development of research related to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The intent of the agreement is to define an integrated test program for evaluating the SAF in the E-Jet E2 commercial aircraft family, which are equipped with Pratt & Whitney GTF family engines. The studies should allow for a better understanding of the efficiency of engines when using SAF, which has characteristics similar to aviation kerosene (QAV). Today, following the technical standards elaborated by ASTM International, it is possible to supply aircraft with a mixture of 50% SAF and 50% kerosene. Collaboration between aeronautical manufacturers, fuel suppliers, and regulatory agencies will allow the operation to be certified with 100% SAF. The SAF that will be used by Embraer in these studies is produced from renewable raw materials, such as used cooking oil or urban solid waste, and can reduce lifecycle CO2 emissions by up to 80%, compared to fuel fossil. The two manufacturers are working to meet the air transport industry’s goal of reducing net CO2 emissions to zero by 2050. – https://aeromagazine.uol.com.br/artigo/embraer-tera-parceria-para-desenvolver-combustivel-sustentavel_7437.html
