Committee of deputies discusses regulation on air transport for people with disabilities
Deputy Rejane Dias (PT-PI), who asked for the debate, said that the news broadcast about difficulties faced by people with disabilities when traveling by air is recurrent. “Unfortunately, this is even worse for those who have some type of illness that forces them to use essential equipment or devices to control their needs. An example is the disease of congenital muscular dystrophy. In this case, the person needs to use a mechanical ventilator that assists in breathing”, she observed. The deputy cited the case of a passenger who suffers from the disease and was removed from a Gol flight because she was using a mechanical ventilation device called BiPap. According to Rejane Dias, the woman has been traveling with a mechanical ventilator for 14 years, as she has 86% of her lung capacity compromised. “A resolution by Brazil’s Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC, in Portuguese) requires airlines to disclose restrictions on medical devices. However, the rules are not clear in Gol’s regulations. The passenger informed that she had to buy a ticket with another company, and so she was able to travel without problems”, said the deputy. The general coordinator of Accessibility and Assistive Technology of the Ministry of Women, Family, and Human Rights, Sergio Paulo Nascimento, confirmed his presence in the debate; and counselor Adinilson Martins dos Santos, representing the National Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CONADE, also in Portuguese). – https://www.aeroflap.com.br/comissao-de-deputados-discute-regulamento-no-transporte-aereo-para-pessoas-com-deficiencia/
