Qatar Airways ground service promises carbon neutral operation

Qatar Aviation Services (QAS), the ground handling company of the Qatar Airways group, announced its partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to become the first company in the industry ready to achieve environmental sustainability. The Arab company is the first specialist in ground handling to join the new expansion of the IATA Environmental Assessment Program (IEnvA) for ground service providers. According to IATA, the IEnvA program leverages the experience gained by airlines to assist in processes to reduce the impact on the environment and improve the health and safety of employees and airport users. The IEnvA program was initially offered to airlines, which demonstrates equivalence to the ISO 14001:2015 environmental management systems standard, providing a structured approach to dealing with the environment, as well as mitigating environmental impacts. “Awareness of environmental sustainability throughout the organization is critical to the success of the Qatar Airways group. Through IEnvA, Qatar Aviation Services will be able to demonstrate the value of environmental compliance and ensure sustainability in its operations”, said Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways Group. The government of Qatar has been working for several years to minimize the environmental impact of air transport. The country that will host the FIFA World Cup in November has created new solutions to reduce carbon emissions and is still preparing new environmental strategies for the future, especially thinking about the expansion of air transport, which should double in size by 2050. “We are delighted to have Qatar Aviation Services as the first ground handler to join IATA’s newly expanded IEnvA program. Sustainability is a critical challenge for our industry”, said Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA. – https://aeromagazine.uol.com.br/artigo/servico-de-solo-da-qatar-airways-promete-operacao-neutra-em-carbono.html
