Salvador Bahia Airport is recognized as a “green airport” for the third time by the International Airports Council

Salvador Bahia Airport – a part of the VINCI Airports network – received for the third time the Green Airport Recognition, a recognition granted by the ACI-LAC (International Airport Council – Latin America and the Caribbean). The award was announced on 10/03 during the Assembly and Annual Conference of the International Airports Council of Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was received by the Director of Environment and Sustainability at VINCI Concessions, Joffrey Mai. The recognition aims to promote best environmental practices to minimize the impact of aviation on the environment, and was obtained through the presentation of the Accelerated Composting project. Implemented in 2022 at Salvador Bahia Airport, it was a way found to give a nobler destination to organic waste, which becomes raw material for the generation of reuse water. Up to 68 thousand liters of water can be saved per month. Food waste such as fruits, vegetables, and animal protein are placed in a compost bin, with Bioconverter’s exclusive biodigestion technology. The equipment processes it, and in up to 24 hours, transforms it into effluent. After that, the liquid is sent to the Effluent Treatment Station, where reuse water is generated, which is used for discharge in the toilets and cooling towers. The Accelerated Composting project is a part of a series of initiatives implemented by VINCI Airports to adopt the concept of circular economy and environmental preservation. – https://www.aeroflap.com.br/salvador-bahia-airport-e-reconhecido-como-aeroporto-verde-pela-terceira-vez-pelo-conselho-internacional-de-aeroportos/
