Airlines transported 82 million passengers in 2022 in Brazil

The Brazilian market handled a total of 82.2 million passengers in air travel last year, a 31.4% jump compared to 2021 — 81.8% more compared to 2020, and only 13.5% below that registered in 2019, before of the impacts of the covid-19 pandemic. The data were released by Brazil’s Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC, in Portuguese). When it comes to international flights, 15.6 million paid passengers were registered – a jump of 226% compared to the numbers of 2021 and 131% compared to 2020. The number represents a drop of 64.7% compared to that registered in 2019. The total handling for the year 2022, both in passengers on domestic and international flights, is the highest recorded since 2020, the year in which the covid-19 pandemic began. Considering the domestic operation, Latam was the airline that transported the most passengers in 2022, with 36.5% of demand (measured in RPK). Gol had 33.7% and Azul, 29.3%. Domestic demand in 2022, measured in paid passenger kilometers transported (RPK), had a positive variation of 28.3% compared to that recorded in 2021. Domestic supply, measured by available seat kilometers (ASK), had an increase of about 30% compared to the year 2021. In the month of December alone, 7.69 million passengers were registered in the domestic market, a reduction of 0.9% compared to 7.76 million in December 2021. On international flights, 1.62 million paid passengers were registered, an increase of 62% compared to the same month of 2021, with 1 million. In 2022, 429.6 thousand tons of domestic cargo were registered, 7.3% more than the total for 2021.
