ABEAR celebrates approval of PM that exempts PIS/COFINS taxes from airline tickets

On April 25, the Brazilian Airlines Association (ABEAR, in Portuguese) approved, in plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies, Article 2 of Provisional Measure #1,147/2022. The matter, which provides for exemption from PIS/COFINS on air ticket revenues until December 2026, must be approved by the Federal Senate. The tax waiver amounts are provided for in the Budgetary Guidelines Law (LDO, also in Portuguese). For the airline industry, this exemption movement is fundamental for the resumption of domestic and international operations, in addition to being a way of minimizing the enormous losses faced in recent years. The accumulated losses of Brazilian airlines are BRL 46.39 MM until 2022, and the scenario remains challenging for 2023 with the continuation of the high exchange rate of the dollar and oil. “Since the beginning of the new government, we have been on an intense agenda to raise awareness about how structuring actions, such as MP 1,147, are essential for civil aviation to recover from the impact of recent years and grow again in a sustainable way. We want to return to the results we experienced in the past decade, with the number of passengers tripling and air fares halved. For this to happen, we have to return to the conditions of operating costs that we have already experienced and that the population has the capacity to consume again, which is why we believe that the National Congress will follow through with the approval of this measure that has been expected for three years by the sector”, evaluates Eduardo Sanovicz, president of ABEAR. – https://aeroin.net/abear-celebra-a-aprovacao-de-mp-que-desonera-pis-cofins-de-passagens-aereas/
