New JetBlue CEO will be a woman
JetBlue announced on January 8 that Joanna Geraghty will be the company’s new CEO, replacing Robin Hayes, who is retiring and will join the Board of Directors. It is the first time that a woman will hold the highest position at a major US airline. The transition comes at a time when JetBlue is in an imbroglio involving the merger with Spirit Airlines, announced in July 2022. The North American government is challenging the deal in court, which is valued at USD 3.8 billion (BRL 18.5 billion). Regulators argue that the formation of the fifth largest airline in the United States could result in passengers paying USD 2 billion more per year, due to higher fares generated by greater concentration in the market. Joanna Geraghty is currently director of operations and has worked at the company for 20 years. “I look forward to building on this momentum as we execute our strategic initiatives, return to profitable growth, and generate sustainable value for our shareholders and all of our stakeholders,” she said. She will take up the role on February 12. – https://aeromagazine.uol.com.br/artigo/nova-ceo-da-jetblue-sera-uma-mulher.html
