ICAO highlights need to defend aviation safety and resilience

The Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Juan Carlos Salazar, recently concluded a high-level mission to Geneva, where he held a series of meetings and bilateral activities in support of the organization’s safety and security priorities, as well as the sustainability and resilience objectives of air transport. The meetings included bilateral discussions with the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus; the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Rebeca Grynspan; the Deputy Secretary General of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Tomas Lamanauskas; and the senior management of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), including its Director General, Willie Walsh. The meeting also marked the conclusion of a new agreement between Salazar and Walsh to extend the ICAO/IATA licensing agreement regarding the Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air. At IATA, Salazar highlighted the crucial importance of cooperation between the two organizations and efforts to address gaps in terms of sustainability and safety. He noted that ICAO is taking advantage of its 80th anniversary to re-evaluate its work and mandate with the aim of better serving its members and stakeholders. Salazar’s conversations with IATA senior management focused on the evolution of international air law, sustainability, data protection and governance, and modern airline retail standards. – https://aeroin.net/oaci-destaca-a-necessidade-de-defender-a-seguranca-e-a-resiliencia-da-aviacao/
