Avianca reduced its carbon emissions by 21% in 2023 compared to 2019
Avianca reduced its carbon emissions by 21% in 2023, compared to what happened in 2019. This is in addition to the 26% reduction in emissions per passenger transported achieved in the same year compared to 2019, transporting, in addition, 5% more passengers. The announcement was made by the Colombian company on Earth Day. In 2023, the airline offset 695,000 tons of CO₂ in restoration and reforestation projects in Colombia. These emissions refer to the total emissions produced when flying an airplane. The company also managed to reduce emissions per passenger transported by 26%, compared to its operation in 2019. These are different from the previous ones because the result is obtained by comparing the emissions produced with the number of people transported on a plane, making it a efficiency indicator. “The 21% reduction in absolute emissions is proof that our business model works and that we are fulfilling the promise of providing access so that more people can use the plane as a means of transport without neglecting our environmental impact and the commitment we have with the environments where we operate”, stated Andres Munoz, Environmental Manager at Avianca. – https://aeroin.net/avianca-reduziu-suas-emissoes-de-carbono-em-21-em-2023-em-comparacao-com-2019/
