Today and tomorrow, Guarulhos Airport is holding a blood donation campaign; see how to participate
This Tuesday and Wednesday, April 23rd and 24th, GRU Airport, concessionaire of Sao Paulo International Airport, in Guarulhos, is holding the fourth edition of the blood donation campaign in partnership with Fundação Pró-Sangue, the Stella Maris Hospital, and Guarulhos City Hall. The concessionaire explains that the campaign is open to the entire airport community and visitors, as long as the person meets the requirements to be a donor, described below in this article. The collection location is in Terminal 2, in the Check-in B auditorium (mezzanine). “In the last edition, we collected 164 bags of blood. Each one can save up to four lives, and we can see the airport community’s interest in participating. This only reinforces the importance of the donation and the link of solidarity to help maintain stocks in blood centers at adequate levels”, says Georges Chaoubah, director of operations at the concessionaire. “The External Collection Program plays an important role in maintaining Pró-Sangue stocks, which supplies over 80 public institutions in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo. And the adherence of GRU and other companies to this initiative has been decisive in achieving our objective, which is to guarantee a better quality of life for patients who depend on blood transfusions”, says Dr. Sandra Esposti, the doctor responsible for the External collection from the Pró-Sangue Foundation. For donors who drive, it is possible to use the airport parking lot, in the Standard area of Terminal 2, free of charge for the first two hours during the two days of the campaign. The free voucher will be delivered after the donation in the auditorium. When leaving, simply present your ticket and receipt at the Índigo counter, in the west arrivals area of Terminal 2. Guidelines for donating blood: To donate, you must be in good health, be well-fed, be between 16 and 69 years old (for minors, consult the website), weigh more than 50 kg, and bring an original identity document with recent photo. It is recommended to avoid fatty foods for 4 hours before donating and 12 hours without drinking alcoholic beverages. Do not donate if you have cold or flu symptoms. It is worth remembering that travel can pose some obstacles to donating. Anyone who has traveled to Brazilian states where malaria is prevalent must wait 12 months after returning to donate. Travelers who came from abroad generally have a period of ineligibility of 30 days after returning to the country.
