Growth in air demand drives use of technology

In 2023, the air travel sector recorded a significant increase exceeding growth expectations. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), demand for travel will continue to rise, reaching 8 billion global passengers by 2040. The report “IT Insights for Passengers – 2024” by SITA, a company specializing in technology for air transport , points out that technology is seen as essential by travelers. The use of digital solutions, especially on mobile devices, has been increasingly adopted. Passengers use their smartphones at various stages of the trip, such as reservations, waiting time and baggage collection. Three in four travelers surveyed said they were comfortable storing their passport on their phone, using a secure digital credential and sharing it in advance to speed up the process. The survey suggests that digital identities will play a fundamental role in the future travel experience. The study indicates that 64% of passengers want to see a reduction in airport queues as the main improvement in their journey. Biometrics, already proven as a tool to speed up processing, still raises concerns among half of users about data privacy. “We are on the threshold of a new era of travel, as unprecedented demand coincides with technological innovations that have the power to revolutionize the entire journey,” said David Lavorel, CEO of SITA. He also said it is important to inform passengers about data security and privacy preservation in biometric solutions. The report also highlights sustainability as a growing priority for travelers. More than 50% of those interviewed would be willing to pay, on average, 11% more on the ticket price to offset the carbon emissions of flights. Many would also accept traveling longer distances or carrying less luggage to reduce their environmental impact. “Travelers are showing the industry that they are aiming for the same responsibilities when it comes to moving aviation to net-zero emissions,” said Lavorel, referring to passengers’ commitment to more sustainable practices. – https://aeromagazine.uol.com.br/artigo/crescimento-da-demanda-aerea-impulsiona-uso-de-tecnologia.html
