United Airlines announces investment in company that produces fuels using a process similar to photosynthesis

United Airlines, which operates nonstop flights between Brazil and the United States, announced an investment in Twelve, an innovative low-carbon fuel company that uses a process similar to photosynthesis to transform CO2 (carbon dioxide) and water into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using renewable energy. This investment from United Airlines Ventures’ Sustainable Flight Fund follows Twelve’s USD 83 million Series C funding round and project financing for its first SAF production facility, AirPlant One, located in Moses Lake, Washington. The facility is expected to begin production this year and produce 50,000 gallons of SAF annually. Last year, Twelve entered into a SAF purchase agreement with a major European airline. Under the 14-year agreement, Twelve will supply 260 million gallons of SAF to support five airlines in that group. This long-term agreement, combined with the development of Twelve’s first plant, reinforces demand for the company’s innovative technology and SAF. The SAF that Twelve plans to produce once its plant is operational is expected to be a low-carbon alternative fuel with the potential to reduce lifecycle emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional jet fuel. – https://aeroin.net/united-anuncia-investimento-em-empresa-que-produz-combustiveis-por-processo-semelhante-a-fotossintese/
