Federal Government announces a BRL 96 million investment in Airport Security Technology

On August 12, the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) and the Air Force Command unveiled a BRL 96 million investment aimed at strengthening the safety and efficiency of air operations in Brazil. Minister Silvio Costa Filho and Air Force Lieutenant Brigadier General Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno signed a Decentralized Execution Agreement (TED) that provides for the acquisition, installation, and certification of 20 Automatic Surface Meteorological Stations (EMS-A) at strategic airports. These new stations aim to provide accurate, real-time meteorological data, enabling airport operators, pilots, and airlines to make safer and more efficient decisions. This initiative is expected to help reduce cancelations and delays caused by adverse weather conditions, ensuring greater regularity and reliability in operations, especially in regions frequently experiencing variable weather conditions. Minister Costa Filho emphasized that the nearly BRL 100 million earmarked for airports represents a significant advance beyond simply modernizing the terminals. “These resources are a strategic step toward improving governance, increasing safety, and strengthening Brazilian aviation, with a special focus on regional aviation, which has seen significant growth in the country,” he stated. The investment, part of the New PAC, will be implemented over five years, according to the signed agreement. The stations will benefit airfields that registered more than 8,000 landings and takeoffs between 2017 and 2024, playing a strategic role in regional development and economic integration. The final list will include 20 airports with scheduled flights, prioritizing locations that lack the resources to acquire these technologies. – https://aeroin.net/governo-federal-anuncia-investimento-de-r-96-milhoes-em-tecnologia-para-seguranca-nos-aeroportos/
