Boeing and United test new digital communications system to increase flight efficiency

Boeing and United Airlines have completed a battery of test flights designed to validate a modernized data communications system designed to improve the flow of information between the flight deck, air traffic control, and airline operations centers. The novelty uses standards based on the Internet Protocol Suite (IPS), which promise to improve operational efficiency and flight safety, in addition to reducing airspace congestion, fuel consumption, costs, and emissions. The tests were carried out with a United Boeing 737 MAX 8, designated as the manufacturer’s ecoDemonstrator Explorer 2025. The assessments took place over two weeks, between the end of October and the beginning of November, with US flights departing from Houston and European flights departing from Edinburgh, Scotland. According to Todd Citron, Boeing’s chief technology officer, the project represents an important advance in the development of digital communications for commercial aviation. He highlighted that the initiative reinforces collaboration with United and other partners to increase the reliability and speed of information exchange between pilots and controllers. – https://aeroin.net/boeing-e-united-testam-novo-sistema-digital-de-comunicacao-para-aumentar-eficiencia-nos-voos/
