Government establishes new rules for the entry of agricultural products inside passenger luggage

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) published new rules for the entry into Brazil of agricultural products transported in travelers’ luggage. The measure, published in the Official Gazette of the Country, aims to inhibit the introduction of pests and disease-causing agents that pose threats to agricultural and environmental heritage, as well as national public health. Products may include animals, vegetables, beverages, genetic materials for use in animal reproduction and propagation of plants, products for veterinary use and intended for animal feed, fertilizers, correctives, inoculants, stimulants and biofertilizers, pesticides, foods, wood products, among other products, by-products and derivatives. The list of agricultural products established in the Ordinance may be updated at any time, as a result of health events, the production of knowledge for the management of zoophytosanitary risk, as well as changes in customs procedures. The inspection work is carried out by the International Agricultural Surveillance System (Vigiagro), which, in accordance with international requirements and Brazil’s agricultural interests, analyzes phytosanitary, zoosanitary and sanitary risks, in addition to meeting relevant identity and quality standards. – https://aeroin.net/governo-estabelece-novas-regras-para-entrada-de-produtos-agropecuarios-na-bagagem-de-passageiros/
