Including Brazilians, ACI accredited airports reach record of carbon reduction
Airports Council International has released the results of the climate action involving all airports participating in the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program, in the period from May 2021 to May 2022. It is a unique program, oriented to the management of carbon emissions to airports. Some Brazilian airports are part, such as Florianopolis, SC, Vitoria, ES, Macae, RJ, Brasilia, DF, Rio de Janeiro/Galeao, RJ, Rio de Janeiro/Santos Dumont, RJ, Confins, MG, and Salvador, BA. During the period covered, accredited airports around the world were able to collectively reduce CO2 emissions under their control by 549,643 tons, equivalent to a reduction of 8.1%. This is the biggest reduction ever reached through the program. In addition, 898,821 tons of CO2 were compensated with high quality carbon credits based on a qualitative assessment of compensation mechanisms and types of compensation available on the market. Niclas Svenningsen, United Nations Framework Convention Coordination Manager (UNFCC), said the announced results talk a lot about the commitment of the global airport industry to combat climate change. “Given the scenario of worsening climate impacts and the window of opportunity to maintain warm-up below 1.5°C closing rapidly, we need all parts of our global economy to act now. The airports clearly understood this message and are at the front line of climate mitigation within their spheres of influence and lending their impetus to other industry players. I congratulate each airport involved in this collective effort to promote the decarbonization of the airport industry globally” celebrated Svenningsen. – https://aeroin.net/incluindo-brasileiros-aeroportos-acreditados-pelo-aci-alcancam-recorde-de-reducao-de-carbono/
