FAB provides support to fight forest fires in Para state

Since last month, many outbreaks of fire have affected the Serra dos Carajas region, in the municipality of Parauapebas, southeastern Para. To help fight the fire, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB, in Portuguese) has sent a C-130 Hercules operated by the First Squadron of the First Transport Group (1st / 1st GT) – Gordo Squad. The aircraft uses the MAFFS (Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System) fire fighting system, and has the capacity to transport 12 thousand liters of water. The equipment has two tubes that project water through the rear door of the plane at a height of approximately 150 feet. Aviator Captain Felipe Schiller Lorande, Commander of the operation, highlighted that it is a privilege for the crew of the Squadron to represent FAB in the fight against flames in Para state. “It is a region of difficult access, but with the expertise of the crew and the operationality of the MAFFS aboard the C-130 Hercules, it is possible to help control the fire”, he said.
