Air travel: a minor must travel in a seat next to a parent or guardian

It has been established that underage passengers must travel in seats located next to at least one adult linked to their reservation – even in cases where passengers choose not to purchase specific seats. The adoption of the measure was formalized after negotiations between Brazil’s Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC, in Portuguese) and representatives of airlines and associations linked to the sector. The need is in accordance with Resolution #295 of the National Council of Justice (CNJ, also in Portuguese). Even in cases where the airline tickets for the minor and the responsible adult have been purchased separately, with different booking numbers, the airline must adopt the necessary procedures to ensure that the two travel side by side. For greater transparency on the matter, it was also defined that companies will provide clearer information in the process of selling airline tickets and on their websites, using, for example, pop-up messages or texts highlighted in the marketing process. The requirement does not apply in the case of a minor traveling unaccompanied by parents or guardians, a situation that must comply with the other provisions of the aforementioned Resolution #295 of the National Council of Justice. – https://www.gov.br/anac/pt-br/noticias/2022/viagens-aereas-menor-de-idade-deve-viajar-em-assento-ao-lado-de-pais-ou-responsavel
