Brazilian company wants to make autonomous and hydrogen-powered cargo flights

A future with cargo flights made with hydrogen-powered unmanned aircraft is closer than imagined in Brazil. Flapper, the leading Brazilian on-demand business aviation platform, has signed a letter of intent with Destinus SA, a European aerospace company that develops high-speed hydrogen-powered airplanes. The letter of intent represents a commitment by both companies in relation to intercontinental plans to open future routes for express air cargo in Latin America and Europe. Through this agreement, the companies will collaborate on a mission with the intention of connecting the world in an efficient and sustainable way. With speeds five times faster than today’s lightest commercial aircraft, Destinus will open up new possibilities for transporting valuable and critical goods. In addition, the aircraft will fly on hydrogen that releases zero carbon emissions into the air during flight. The cargo segment is responsible for around 30% of Flapper’s business, through the international transport of goods, such as emergency spare parts, medical equipment, banking services, high-income products, mining, and diplomatic items. “Latin America is a key market for us”, said Mikhail Kokorich, CEO of Destinus. “Partnering with Flapper will help us gain direct insight into the express freight market and explore new route options across the Atlantic Ocean.” Paul Malicki, CEO of Flapper, says, “In emergency situations, every second matters. The supply chain disruption caused by the pandemic has permanently put aviation at the forefront of specialist cargo operations. Using Destinus’ hydrogen-powered aircraft, we aim to shorten the delivery time of existing long-range cargo missions to a fraction of the which is today.” – https://aeroin.net/empresa-brasileira-quer-fazer-voos-de-carga-autonomos-e-movidos-a-hidrogenio/
