Brasilia Airport receives international carbon emission reduction certification

The concessionaire Inframerica reported that Brasilia Airport, which it manages, received the “level 2 – reduction” certification from the International Council of Airports for Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) in the ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program. It evaluates and recognizes the efforts made by Inframerica to manage and reduce carbon emissions at the terminal in Brasilia. “This is an important certification and is the result of several actions that the concessionaire has been carrying out at Brasilia Airport to make the operations of the entire aerodrome more sustainable”, says Juan Djedjeian, Vice President of Inframerica. Important investments were made by Inframerica with a focus on greater environmental responsibility in the operations of the terminal in Brasilia. Over the years, common light bulbs and reflectors have been replaced by LEDs, both in the terminals and in the patio and runway areas, in addition to the adoption of the use of renewable energy sources. The administrator also implemented a Photovoltaic Plant for the production of energy from a solar source that serves to supply part of the consumption of the air terminal. Currently, 7% of the airport’s consumption comes from this plant. This consumption is equivalent to supplying 1,462 low-income households. Another important action was the implementation of electricity consumption management, carried out by the Maintenance Control Center – CCM, through an automated system capable of monitoring the airport’s main energy consuming sources. This makes it possible for anomalies to be quickly corrected. In addition, Inframerica, in partnership with Engie, provides electricity and air conditioning to the planes parked at Brasilia Airport with renewable energy, replacing the fossil fuel-powered equipment that used to supply them. With this, there is a reduction in carbon emissions, making both airlines and the terminal more sustainable. All these efforts are in line with international best practices and recommendations from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Thus, the measures adopted by Inframerica contribute to reducing the impact of the Brazilian airline industry on the environment and climate change. Inframerica’s Environment team continues to study new technologies to reduce pollutants and to make the operation in Brasilia even more sustainable. – https://aeroin.net/aeroporto-de-brasilia-recebe-certificacao-internacional-de-reducao-de-emissao-de-carbono/
