Disruptive research on hydrogen fuel cells for commercial aviation launched

The North American aerospace multinational Honeywell informed this week that a consortium led by it recently met to launch a European clean aviation project that will develop a new generation of hydrogen fuel cells. Named NEWBORN and with the participation of 18 partners from 10 European countries, the project will involve multidisciplinary collaboration to develop a megawatt-class fuel cell propulsion system qualified for aerospace powered by hydrogen. Green hydrogen, the term given to hydrogen produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity, is an extremely clean source of energy that can be used to power future aircraft, making it attractive as the aerospace industry works to reduce carbon emissions. The final demonstrator of the NEWBORN project will be integrated and tested by Pipistrel Vertical Solutions, a disruptive general aviation manufacturer based in Slovenia and, since 2022, part of the Textron group. – https://aeroin.net/lancada-pesquisa-disruptiva-sobre-celulas-de-combustivel-de-hidrogenio-para-a-aviacao-comercial/
