Congonhas Airport will register an increase of 31% in July

Congonhas airport, in Sao Paulo, should register intense movement in the month of July, driven by the increase in demand for airline tickets during the high season of school holidays. According to data from Infraero, the company that manages the airport in Sao Paulo, around 2.3 million passengers are expected between July 3rd and August 3rd, an increase of 31% compared to the same period last year. Still according to the Congonhas administrator, the number of landings and takeoffs should grow by 29%, to 17,700 flights, which represents a daily average of 590 aircraft. Sao Paulo’s central airport handled 8.3 million passengers in the first five months of 2023, growth of 28.3% in the annual comparison. In early June, Brazil’s Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC, in Portuguese) issued the service order that gives effect to the Congonhas airport concession contract, auctioned last year to the Spanish company Aena for BRL 2.45 billion in a block with another ten other terminals. After the transition process, the concessionaire will take over the capital’s central airport in the second half of this year.
