Sao Paulo may have a new airport
The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, confirmed during an interview with Rede Cultura’s Roda Viva program on the 18th, that the city of Cajamar, in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo, will probably be chosen to house the new airport focused on executive and cargo aviation in Sao Paulo. The city of Cajamar, located approximately 30 kilometers from the capital, is easily accessible via the Bandeirantes and Anhanguera highways, and is also a logistics hub for several e-commerce companies. The site has been studied for several years for the construction of an airport, and in the past, a new international airport was considered. Another favorable factor in the region is the stable climate and the existence of few natural obstacles, an important item for building an airport. During the interview at Roda Viva, when asked by a journalist about the issue of the future location being able to take demand from other airports with similar vocation and within a radius of approximately 100 kilometers, including Jundiai, Viracopos, and Sorocaba, which are under private management, the minister responded that the growth of Brazilian civil aviation would require an additional airport. The government’s forecast is that by mid-2026, the end of the current administration, Brazilian aviation will transport between 130 and 140 million passengers per year. Costa Filho added that the new airport should be between Cajamar and Caieiras, and could even be an option for Congonhas. “We hope that within five or six years, Congonhas will already be operating at the limit of its capacity”, said the minister. Studies on the technical feasibility of building the new field have been underway since last year, with completion expected in the first half of the year. However, the Ministry of Ports and Airports did not provide an estimate of when work on the new Sao Paulo terminal will begin and how it will be managed. – https://aeromagazine.uol.com.br/artigo/sao-paulo-podera-ganhar-um-novo-aeroporto.html
